        XLPE vs LDPE

The Big Difference Between HDPE and Cross-Linked Polyethylene

Not all high-density polyethylene are created equal. Although they sound nearly identical, linear polyethylene and cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) have significant differences. Those differences could impact your organization’s bottom line, your people’s safety, and the operations of your facility.

Both linear polyethylene and XLPE product are made with heated resins to create a cured plastic. However, the differences in their production create very different polyethylene with very different structural strength. Let’s take a look at the manufacturing methods and see how XLPE is significantly different from linear polyethylene. Read More

What is the meaning of XLPE?

Cross-linked polyethylene, commonly abbreviated PEX, XPE or XLPE,XLHDPE is a form of polyethylene with cross-links. It is used predominantly in building services pipework systems, hydronic radiant heating and cooling systems, domestic water piping, and insulation for high tension (high voltage) electrical cables.

According to the cross-linking method, it is divided into two types: chemical cross-linking (adding cross-linking agent) and physical cross-linking (irradiation).

The chemical method is divided into silane crosslinking and peroxide crosslinking according to the different crosslinking agents added.

                  What is XLPE plastic Tank?

The result is a plastic that possesses impact resistance, tensile strength, and resistance to fracture that linear polyethylene just can’t match.
These qualities make cross-linked polyethylene an excellent choice when tank integrity is critical.

Why do some rotational molds have vent holes?

Rotational molding produces strong, hollow plastic parts.

Sometimes, holes or vents are required to equalize the pressure on the part’s inner and outer walls during the heating and cooling of the mold.

Another, For XLPE materials It will release a little gas during the rotomolding cross-linking process, so vent holes are also needed.

                      Is rotational Moulding expensive?

Rotational moulding machine costs are low compared to other processes and the investment required is small.

There is great production flexibility with the process. There is almost no limit to the size of products and several different products can be moulded at the same time.

What is the root cause for uneven wall thickness in rotational molding?

When the mold’s temperature is high, the plastic is easy to melt first and coating layer by layer with the rotation of the mold,
so the adhesive resin will be more, while the resin adhering to the low temperature part is relatively less,
resulting in uneven wall thickness of the products.
